Bedwetting

About 15% of 5 year olds wet their beds, as do 7% of 8 year olds, and 3% of 12 year olds. So what can be done to help these children and how does Chiropractic come into it?

Chiropractic is primarily focused on nerve function and that the messages from the brain are clearly communicating with the rest of the body. The Chiropractic approach to health care is quite different from any other approach. It is a full body approach-ensuring that the spine is healthy; that there is no nerve stress or spinal blockage to the internal organs, including the bladder. When the messages are skewed, the end organs are affected.

I have had several experiences with children suffering from bed-wetting. One case in particular is of a 6 year old girl who had been wetting the bed for approximately 3 years. Her parents had tried medicating her, specialists, and even psychotherapy. After 2 adjustments to her lumbar spine and pelvis, she has not wet the bed since. This is one of many cases that not only gets the desired result, but also lifts the confidence of the child dramatically.

Among the researched literature is a case of a 34 month old boy with asthma and bed-wetting who had not responded to medical care. After more than 20 emergency visits to the hospital during a 12 month period the parents decided to investigate Chiropractic care.

Three Chiropractic adjustments were given over an 11 day period and the bed wetting stopped completely. The problem returned after the child fell from a step ladder about 8 weeks later but disappeared again after a further series of Chiropractic adjustments.

Two years later, the mother reported no recurrence of the asthma or bed-wetting. Bed-wetting is often found to respond in many cases after a course of Chiropractic adjustments of the spine.
